A sample conversation on a phone. She writes: Still thinking about that ramen place you mentioned. Is it as good as you said? He opens AI Reply, which shows what it read and lets him remove a line. He taps Generate and three sample replies appear. He picks one, changes the day to Friday, and sends it himself.

AI Reply and your chat

To draft a reply, AI Reply reads the conversation on your screen. That needs Android's Accessibility permission, which you grant yourself after the app explains it. It reads the screen when you open the tool, shows you what it captured, and lets you remove anything. Only what you keep is sent, and only when you tap Generate.

How your data is handled

Being understood is the point.

A message is how people stay close. The words should arrive the way you meant them.

Three more things it does

Say it out loud.

Tap the mic and speak. Check the text before it goes in.

The keyboard only listens after you tap its mic key.

AI Reply contextOnly what you keep is sent, and only when you tap Generate.

Does it read my messages?

Only when you open AI Reply, and only after you've given it Android's permission to read the screen. It shows you what it read, including the chat's name, before anything is sent, and you can remove any of it. More about privacy.

Does it listen all the time?

No. The keyboard only listens after you tap its mic key, and voice typing works only after you agree to the AI notice. Your speech is then sent to Deepgram to be typed; if Deepgram is unavailable, rate limiting us or refusing our account, the same voice clip may go to Groq for transcription. If the connection fails, the on-phone voice model can type it instead. More about voice typing.

Does it change words without asking?

Today's app corrects in a series of steps, each able to overrule the last. A single engine that weighs your taps, the spelling and the word before it all at once is still being tested and is off in the app. How we test our own autocorrect.
